JASLEEN DHAMIJA is known internationally as Philosopher of Living Cultural Traditions. She was responsible for the development of the handicrafts and handloom sector in India. With the United Nations she worked in Iran, Middle East, Central Asia, South East Asia, the Balkans, as well as with 21 countries in Africa.

Her main specialty is History of Textiles and Costumes. She was awarded Hill Professorship by University of Minnesota, and was faculty at the National Institute of Fashion Technology, New Delhi, teaching History of Indian Textiles and costumes. She was also visiting faculty at the National Institute of Design, Resident scholar in Textiles at art colleges in University of Canberra, Sydney and Wollongong.

She has organised various seminars on Textile History, Costumes, Draping and Wrapping, lectured on Textiles in Museums of India, Europe, UK, USA, Japan, Australia and South East Asia. She curated an exhibition 'Woven Magic: The Affinity between Indian & Indonesian Textiles' in Jakarta, and an exhibition on Indian Textiles at the National Museum, Manila. She is at present working on ‘Textiles of the Commonwealth' for RMIT gallery, Melbourne, for the Commonwealth Games-2006 to be held at Melbourne, Australia.

She is editor of ‘Encyclopedia of Dress and Adornment of the World' for 2 volumes: South Asia & South East Asia, as well as Central Asia and Middle East, to be published by Routledge, USA.

Jasleen has published over a dozen books on Textiles, Folk Arts and has contributed to Encyclopedias, Ars Iranica and Ars Islamica. UNESCO has appointed her as President of Jury of Asian Award for Creativity in Textile over the last couple of years.
